Committees at ISH

The Spirit committee organises fun activities to involve all students. These activities are organised by both grade 10 and DP1 students. These activities consist of mostly holiday celebrations such as Christmas activities (candy cane handout and Christmas sweater day), Halloween (the Halloween party for grades 6 – 8), Valentines Day (gift and candy handout) and many more activities. They come together for meetings to discuss the organisation of these activities. Their aim is to make our school a lot of fun with these activities and boost our school spirit!

The student council consists of students in the school from each year group. They come together every so often and discuss important matters in the school. They are led by presidents (often represented by DP students) and solve issues in school to make it a better place! These issues range from short term (soap dispensers, hand dryers etc.) as well as long term issues (promoting recycling, inspiring good behaviour). Many of these issues are brought to the council by students hoping to create an even better learning environment.

In rainbow alliance, we discuss issues surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community, and often we are given presentations regarding these. Whats so nice about it though, is that immediately you feel welcomed, and it's an automatic community that feels safe. Some meetings are about important subjects, however so many are super relaxed and full of fun activities that the variety never gets boring

The sustainability council is a recent committee organised by two DP1 students. They organise meetings and consist of representatives from each year group who, like the student council, come together for meetings to make our school greener! Many projects are begun in the year, both small issues and bigger issues all consisting of doing our part to make Hilversum a better place! As well as this, the council gets the school involved in events such as the sustainability fair during summer school and inspiring students to take part in learning about sustainability.

The Model United Nations is a weekend where students are able to develop their communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skill. Together as a group of students they practice being in part of government decisions practicing for the UN. They can do this on a stage of global politics where they can obtain a better view of the world and spark possible future interest. 

The Owl talks is a podcast held by two of our grade 10s. Fee van den Brink and Sophia Kohlen create a series of podcasts often bringing in the perspectives of their peers and fellow student at ISH. They get together every so often and record sometimes with their classmates or even by themselves. The podcasts range from holiday seasons to how the younger students see the older students (Trust us they have some interesting things to say ).They manage to have fun and engaging conversations that interest all ages. These podcasts are both humorous as well as educational and can even be found on our school website!
